Re: Upgrading from Yamaha NP-30 to DGX 630?

Coming from a keyboard with unweighted keys, anything will be better.  But you can do much better than the DGX-630. It's out of date. There are newer models in the same price range.

Suggestion ... ask your question at Piano World.  You get much more attention there.

Well Haro, the current model you are playing on as you can tell isn't the best. You sound like you need something with weighted keys, which the DGX-630 definitely has. I work in a music store as a sales consultant, and have the job of selling many different brands and styles of digital pianos. Out of all the digital instruments in our store, the Yamaha DGX-630 has the closest feel to a real piano. The weighted keys really make it more enjoyable to play, however the sound quality is probably not as nice as most of the Roland range. My suggestion would be to sit down for a good ten minutes and play the DGX 630 in your nearest store, after all nobody else needs to like it, just you, well most importantly! Also try some of the Roland range, specifically the FP4 which is similarly 'piano like' in touch responsiveness and sound. Hope that helps, Michael

After trying virtually every single keyboard in numerous music stores, I found the Yamaha DGX the best of the lot. A safe bet!

The DGX-630 is one of my favorites in that range. You won't be disappointed.

It has a graded piano action keyboard which means the keys are heavier towards the bass end and lighter towards the treble to simulate how a real piano feels on the bass and treble end. Many weighted boards feel the same from one end to the other.

Also look at the Yamaha YPG-635. It is almost the same exact keyboard.
