At 5:00, what piece is the girl in red playing?

I don't think this video has a very legit title, but what she plays sounds really cool.

I tried looking up these people, but no info haha.

That is Carl Vine's Piano Sonata No. 1, the first movement. This piece has become rather overplayed (relative to other pieces in the last 25 years) in recent years, which is both good and bad. Most people, however, don't do that great of a job with it (this girl is sorta just ok). It is good to see a new work get a lot of attention, though. Check out Michael Kieran Harvey's recording of it for an amazing account of it.

I'm frankly not surprised it ended up in a competition, ever since Joyce Yang popularized it with her horrible performance of it in the 2001 (I believe) Van Cliburn competition. If I recall correctly, it was on Spencer Myer's program on this year's Van Cliburn, but he didn't get far enough to play it, which is a shame. He plays that piece very well (there's a great performance of him playing it on YouTube).

Spencer Meyer's video is where I first heard it.  I remember checking to see if any of the Cliburn competitors had anything on youtube, and I came across this.  I had only heard about 2 minutes of it.  Favorited the video as soon as I checked it again lol.  I knew it sounded familiar from something hehe
