Horowitz Carmen Variations
on: November 12, 2009, 11:26:35 AM
Hello all,
Would anyone care to share a copy of Horowitz's Variations on Themes from Carmen as played in Carnegie Hall in 1968? This performance may be seen in the DVD The Art of the Piano and also appears on the CDs of the same title. I once obtained a transcript from Gaming Force before that forum's sad demise, but it was derived from a piano roll and seems markedly different from the version I would like. I'm told by people who knew Horowitz well that he performed three or four different variants of the piece, so that explains the discrepencies. At one time Wanda Horowitz was going to authorize publication of her husband's transcriptions (and perhaps other works) but that projected event fell through, so the only option for interested pianists is the cooperation of enthusiasts such as one might expect to find here. I don't have any rare esoterica to trade (would that I had), but would be endlessly grateful to anyone willing to help me acquire this quite fascinating work. Thank you.
