Difficulty levels of these composers' pieces
on: July 01, 2004, 02:14:09 AM
I just read the thread "Progressive Repertoire" where the works by Chopin, Debussy, Beethoven, Bach have been ordered by their difficulty level from Beginner to Late Advanced
Since one asked to update the list I'm interested/propose to order by difficulty level the pieces of these composers:

Mendelssohn
Grieg
Prokofiev
Sibelius
Faure
Rachmaninov

Also what grade/level is Sinding's Rustle of Spring ?

Thanks
Daniel

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the Sinding.

However, I can offer my opinion of the order of difficulty (easiest to hardest) of the composers you mentioned.  By this, I mean technical difficulty, not musical or interpretive.

1. Mendelssohn
2. Grieg/Sibelius (tie)
3. Faure
4. Rachmaninoff/Prokofiev (tie)

Keep in mind, this is only my opinion.

I'd Switch Faure with Grieg on your list, Lisztmaninopin. As for the Christian(great name) Sinding, it would fall a 4 from a 1-10. Not much actual movement involved.
