Porgi Amor -- Mozart
on: December 12, 2009, 06:38:28 AM
Okay, me singing, but there is piano playing (not me playing) !  This is actually from a couple of hours ago -- not the best recording quality as it was just with my edirol, but it's better than nothin' !

I am the Kountess  8)

So you *do* still sing! And how absolutely gorgeous is the singing!

I'm always so excited when you post these recordings. It gives voice to what I can't see behind the letters on the screen in a way not even the piano can. And is there anything better than Mozart on a Friday?

But as great and thoughtful and imaginative a *pianist* you are, and so deep a thinker on music, I wonder if it would be equally enriching and intimidating to accompany you?

(BTW, I'm still thinking with interest about that choral piece you posted from Martha Sullivan's "O Antiphons." I had not heard of Sullivan, but I love that movement and would truly love to hear the entire piece.)
Don't let anyone know where you tie your goat.

Your humblest of subjects, I must saye this finds ye glistening.  I don't doubt that I have listened to your voice more than anyone else here (except perhaps for Wolfi, but I believe I pose a daunting challenge even to him!), and I think you were in top form tonight.  You sound quite at ease in your singing.  Thank you for sharing, Kountess.  It was a real treat. :)

No, I'm friendly and it would probably be great fun, and enriching, too (definitely for me, anyway) ! :)

Thank you for your comments, Dave, and thank you Goldy, too -- thanks for listening :).

Yes you're right and I'm sure you have beaten me by far :)
Which has of course nothing to do with the quality of Karli's singing. Quite the contrary, somehow.

Karli:

my impression is that your voice has become more centered and more secure :)
Actually I'm not yet sure how to put adequately into words what I think, having followed some of your musical steps for a few years now. It seemed often to me that you are somehow torn between your two main instruments voice and piano. At some point in time you posted "Journey" and "Voice within". Having listened to these two I thought wow this is your style, your thing, your "voice".  Something that nobody except you, Karli, can do. I have somehow felt a sort of "temptation" to claim: This is your way, wow, this is what you "need" to do! But of course this lasted only for moments. Of course only you yourself will decide what you will do in the future, since you are (in my perception) a free artist and all you will do on this level of free artistship will be "Karli".

Wolfi, oh my goodness, thank you so much for your post.  I just listened to this recording on CD, and decided to put on the same CD some recordings of some of my singing experiences from the last few years.  It's so hard for me to explain myself, but I can say that I started to feel such a deep frustration about things and about my life.  I know, I know, so dramatic.  I have to tell you that your post actually made me cry because, you are so right in what you say and I appreciate so much your final ideas.  I do feel constantly torn, between many things, and as dramatic as that may sound, it's simply not a real fun experience and it never has been.

I do often feel as though people would like and even feel some responsibility to help to put me is some category, and I actually understand this very much.  What I am doing pianistically right now, the intense and focused instruction, my rock-solid teacher, I deeply need that.  But, it doesn't make everything else about me disappear (actually, that particular thing just seems to feed it).  Regarding my recording here, I can hear all the imperfections and I know the kind of time and effort I have put into this (which has been varying over the years).  I can hear things in my voice now that I only heard glimmers of in the recordings of a couple of years ago ... all of this is meant to be to saying that, I simply don't know what kind of path to follow.  The fact that I have managed to focus my life as much as I have is a real accomplishment for me ... haha.  But, I know I can do so much more and sometimes that all leaves me feeling pretty lost (that is definitely one reason I appreciate having such focused instruction with my piano teacher).

I guess I feel like whatever my path is, I simply have to concede that it's just not going to be something that I can point at and say "yep, that's the one" ... I think it's not one that is considered "normal" and honestly, I have no idea if I will ever amount to anything of a spectacular nature at all !!  I very well may not.  I suppose I fear something like watching my funeral from some hovering spot above and hearing people's thoughts saying "what a waste" ... b/c I haven't just gone for an Opera career or b/c I simply didn't start piano lessons when I was 1yrs old.  I feel like I actually have to reverse the laws of this world, and I am actually not really joking.

Well, bah.  Anyway, thank you so much !  I will get back to doing something responsible now  :).

You heard it too Wolfi.  That's what I meant, "at ease."  A new change.

Wow, and here all along I thought you were a pianist.  Maybe you're both.  The perfect aria to accompany yourself to.  I don't know your other recordings here.  Do you study/sing professionally?  How long have you been studying.  How old are you.  What else have you sung?... I've been an opera hack pianist for ....years and am just curious.  Do the appoggiatura on "tesoro".

Do you study/sing professionally?

Sometimes.

Quote
How long have you been studying.

Eternity.

Quote
How old are you.

Whatever age I get cast for.

Quote
What else have you sung?

Lots of Arias and a few art songs ... it kind of depends on what it means to actually be "singing" :).

I hope you enjoy it :).

I did.
