Windows help - disappearing fonts

I'm running Windows XP SP3 and earlier today I restarted my computer after an Avira scan and installing Alcohol 52% and Windows had some weird characters instead of the regular English words. After some time investigating I noticed my C:\WINDOWS\Fonts folder is empty; I copy some fonts to it and Windows goes back to normal, except when I reboot again the problem reappears and the folder is empty, I install fonts again, but as soon as I go out of the folder and enter back into it the files are gone.

I've asked on a technical support forum with no luck so maybe there's someone here with enough Bill Gates' crap Windows knowledge to help me, or at least to tell me of a good tech forum.
