Rach Prelude Agitato Practise Help
on: March 22, 2010, 01:14:14 AM
Any advice on how to practise the middle section of the C-sharp minor prelude? It's becoming frustrating with me making so many mistakes.

In general, limit your practice to the speed at which you don't make mistakes.

I can't offer anything more specific, as you don't say what specific difficulty you're having.
What passes you ain't for you.

Mostly, my right 5th finger just hits a nearby key, but when that happens, the whole piece goes downhill. Also, my left hand also misses the lower bass notes.

It sounds like you just need to relax and be very careful and focused.  Like SteveBob said, slow the piece down if necessary and hammer out those fingerings and stretches.

This is a beautiful piece, I also recommend Rachmaninoff performing Waltz in E flat major, Op. 18. by Chopin. It sounds amazing in person on a Steinway piano.

Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
