Audition
on: March 28, 2010, 12:15:13 AM
I've got an audition in less than a month to get into music studies at university.
Anyway, I am not what you would call a good piano player.
I got grade 8 two years ago when I was 17 and since then have moved onto songs that I find more enjoyable. Jazz, such as fats waller- handful of keys.
I love playing songs like this but I seem to have lost the ability to play classical music.
Should I get a music teacher again for a few weeks before audition?
I only know a few classical and romantic pieces to an ok standard.
Songs like Nocturne by Grieg, Op 54, No 4.

Should I play this, or go with some of my jazz ones? Or a bit of both?

Any other tips for the audition?

What type of course is it that you're applying for? If you can show some ability in areas that the course will cover that will help.

Can you get a copy of the course syllabus? Most Uni's have these online now. You could have a look (good prep for the interview anyway) and see what's required in that. If you have some of those skills then show them off!

Yep, I've had a good look at what they expect. They want grade 6+ so that gives me a little confidence. I will post a few songs on the recording section soon. :) You will see what I mean by not so good at romantic and classical! lol
I think I will do some jazz and some romantic. :D
