Whoa! Yuja Wang
on: April 21, 2010, 06:45:11 PM
I stumbled across Yuja on YouTube yesterday while looking for a recording of a Prokofiev concerto.   Then I bought her Sonatas & Etudes album from iTunes.  Have you heard her interpretation of "Alla Turca"?   I saw it on the list and thought, oh man... I've already got 2 versions of this.  How many pianists have to record this piece?  Well.... Yuja makes it her own.  All that talent and she's really cute too.   Grrrrr.
Currently learning:
Chopin Prelude Op. 28, no. 15
Schubert Sonata in A Major, D.959: Allegretto

I listened to her interpretation of Prokofiev's third piano concerto (with Claudio Abbado). It was simply phenomenal to me.

Her Petrushka as encores are also as brilliant, and yet depressing for me too. :(
Bach - Partita No.2
Scriabin - Etude 8/12
Debussy - L'isle Joyeuse
Liszt - Un Sospiro

Goal:
Prokofiev - Toccata

I'm sorry I really can't join the Yuja Wang fan club. When I hear her playing I hear an awesome technique with almost no warmth at all.

That's ok.... she's very young... it may come.  She's no Martha Argerich, but I still really love her.

Is she able to play anything that isn't uber-virtuoso?
