Alkan's Cello Sonata!
on: April 25, 2010, 11:25:38 PM
The "Sonate de Concert" Op. 47 Even non-Alkan fans can enjoy this! This is Edward Auer and Yehuda Hanani's recording, one I'd been looking for for a while.

I had to divide some movements into 2 parts because of length. Sorry about that, couldn't be helped. :(

(You can find the other movements in related vids.)

While exposure to the music of an underexposed composer is nice, expecting non-Alkan fans to appreciate his chamber music might be a hard sell.

I say that because of the scant enthusiasm that even the most zealous Chopin admirers seem to have for his own Cello Sonata; I would expect non-fans to have even less interest.  :(

Thanks for posting this nonetheless!

Really? There isn't much enthusiasm for Chopin's cello sonata? I enjoy that work a lot, too.

I first heard the piece nearly ten years ago on Naxos, and it really shouldn't be a hard sell - it's a lot more accessible than much of Alkan's large-scale piano music.
