Gaining finger strength and agility on a keyboard
on: May 22, 2010, 12:59:58 AM
Hello I have a weighted keyboard that I use to practice on and I was wondering if this will inhibit my learning process somehow as the keys on a piano have different weights than a keyboard. Also it is not touch sensitive so I can not control the volume as so far as loud and quiet outside the volume control button.
Will I need to buy a real piano to practice properly or is a keyboard enough to reach the agility and strength my fingers need to play?

As your keyboard has weighted keys, I don't see a big issue with agility and strength if you move to an acoustic piano later. I'd be concerned about musicality and expressiveness, though. You're not going to be able to learn much (if anything) about touch, tone, dynamic control, pedaling, etc., and that's a significant disadvantage.
