Yamaha p120
on: July 15, 2004, 11:01:55 AM
I yesterday bought myself a yamaha p120
I think its amazing? has anyone played on it before. I think it's very good for a digital stage piano, knowing you can't have 5 gigabytes of sampling rom (POST piano).

does somebody on the board has any experience with it?

I have a Yamaha P120, and i'm very happy with it. It certainly does a good job, the feel is actually very similar to the upright I used to practice on.

Despite the name I wouldn't recommend it for any kind of performance, but you can't really beat the convenience as far as casual use goes.

Make sure you buy a good pair of studio headphones!

what kind of headphones do you guys have? I have some Koss ones that are good for listening to music but not that great for the keyboard.

My headphones are "DIGITAL Monitor audio techinica AHT-M2X"....and I think I have been confused. I have been answering posts referring to the p120, thinking that is what I have (an abbrev). I actually have the CLP-120 by Yamaha, Clavinova. Is this the same think you have. Mine has a bench, and 3 pedals. It's in a cabinet like a piano, not just the keyboard. Is this the same as Yamahap120? I guess I always thought it was, but saw one listed in a catalog that came yesterday, and the price was different. Can someone enlighten me?

Thanks,
S :)

The P120 is a stage piano and is very different from the CLP-120. The action is similar, and the sounds are probably better on the P120, but is is not as much a piano players digital as a Clavinova. Check out:

Thanks Xvimbi, I was thinking all along they were the same thing. So the P120 is just the "keyboard" and the CLP-120 is the whole thing..cabinet and all, huh? Thanks for the info. I have been really please with my Clavinova...it's just for practice though late at night when everyone else is sleeping. Other times I use my real piano.

Thanks again,
S :)

I have had this piano for more than a year. At first I liked it a lot, but now I think it sounds too bright  :P I still like playing it though. Great piano anyways.
I love Chopin!
