How can I show you my music?

hi everyone,
I just composed my first piece on a downlodable version of "NoteWorthy Composer", and I wanted to know how I could share this with you guys.  Firstly, how do I convert the software file (that plays MIDI) into a recording, and then, how do I get that recording on the internet?

I've never used NoteWorthy. However, if this is like regular music typeset software, then you could be able to save it as midi format. Try to goto file>>save as or file>>export, and choose the file format that you need. In this case it will be mid.

Now if you want it to be recorded into an audio cd, you need to convert it to .wav format. There are many software to do that. You can google around to get the information. The one I found is midi2wave recorder, https://www.hot-shareware.com/mp3-audio/midi2wav-recorder/.

Another thing, I think noteworthy is not a freeware, right? Maybe you wanna try this one www.lilypond.org. It is free, and it can produce a very beautiful music score. You can take a look at some examples here, www.mutopiaproject.org.

ok, I saved it into a "type 1 MIDI file".  Now, how do I get it onto the internet?  (do I have to convert it into .wav format first?)

No problem - you can put it up in midi format if you want, or you can convert the midi to wav (then compress that to mp3 because wav format is extremely large).  Here is how you would go about converting the midi to wav, assuming you are running windows XP:
1) go to your volume control
2) options > properties > recording
3) check the box under midi synth - this sets the recording to read from your midi output from your sound card (instead of, say, the mic)
4) open up sound recorder, as well as windows media player
5) press record on sound recorder, and press play immediately after on windows media player (with the midi you plan to record)
6) after it finishes playing, press stop and save
7) use a program like cdex/sound forge/LAME/Nero wavedit to convert to mp3

To post this fresh mp3 on the web, sign up for webspace with such domains as geocities/brinkster (or download apache and set up a direct ftp from your computer... but more on that if you really care) and upload the file from their file manager program

Then send us the link!

Put it up as a midi is your first option. Your second option is:
1. Get a Digital Piano
2. Record yourself playing the piece for a real like effect.
3. Buy The Grand VST Instrument from Steinberg.
4. Get VST compatible software, like Cubas, Nuendo, or Fruity Loops.
5. Open up The Grand VST and change the port to "0"
6. Save the piece
7. Tada! (Optional)

Of course the second option could run you upwards of a thousand dollars. Send me the NWC file anyways at darkwind@darkwinddesign. I have Noteworthy Composer as well. Also, are you using a trial or the full version?

By the way, its ok, pretty nice for a beginner.  It could use a lot of rewoking. Very short. It doesn't flow perfectly, like if you are on one musical phrase and all of the sudden switch to another one. Anyways, here 2 pieces I have written, using Sibelius.

The scherzo is very diabolic, and was inspired by Mazeppa. Cascades is a very Impressionistic piece, One of my favorites.

If you go directly to the site , it will say it cannot be found, but if you add in "Op.1.mid" afterwards, it should work.

I dont want any critique on the piece- I know it sucks(I did it in like, half an hour)...I just want to see if uploading on to geocities worked.

Print Music is ok, two steps below Finale. Try the trial version and see if you like. But, if you want to go for the ultimate sound, get ready to put a hurt on your wallet and buy Sibelius or Finale. I reccomend Sibelius. There is almost nothing you can't do with it. Rolls, Accellerandos, Ritardandos, Cross-Staff Notes, etc. It goes more farther than that. It is truly a great program, and has a much much smaller learning curve than Finale. Finale takes days to get used to. Sibelius, I was a master at using it on the first day. It's simple, and complex.

DarkWind, do you use Grand VST Instrument? Could you tell me your computer system specification?. I am thinking of getting that, and connect the system to my digital piano. However I am not sure if I can get a good quality sound in real time or not.

It works fine on full sound as long as you don't touch the mouse. My recommendation is to get the recording onto the midi, then save it with the sound going through the instrument. It's a pretty nice program, but you better have a large hard drive!

Sorry DonJuan, haven't been able to connect with yours, the site comes up saying it's not available.

I was able to hear yours DarkWind, and Wow...I was really impressed. I enjoyed both the cascades and the Scherzo. I'd be anxious to it when it is completed also. How long did it take you to write that? Do you have more pieces you've composed?

You're very talented, and I'm sure you'll be successful musically if thats what you choose to pursue. I wish you the best of luck!

Cascades was written in a day. The Scherzo in quite a few days, still working on it. I just bought Forsyth's Orchestration, so I might be doing orchestral stuff for the while, maybe a piano concerto?
