new pin block and strings
on: June 28, 2010, 11:23:17 AM
I had a new pin block and string put in my baby grand about 3 months ago. How long will it take before it holds a tune?

It will vary due to a number of things (the piano, its environment, how often you tune it etc).
Tuning 4-5 times in the first year should just about get you there.
Did they repair and re-crown the soundboard at the same time?

It will also depend on how many tunings were done initially after the restringing. Bottom line is you should have it tuned around 4 times the first year and 2 times a year after that. How well is stays in tune will depend on the humidity fluctuation, how much it is played, what kind of piano it is and how stable a tuning is put on.
