Casio Privia Px 120 or Px 130
on: July 16, 2010, 03:30:55 PM
Hi all,

I own a Px120 but because of a resonance issue, I can exchange it for a new Px120 or a Px130.

I heard there isn't a big improvement between the two? Even though the new key action and sound are supposed to be an improvement?

What are your thoughts on this?

Thank you

Oh my god, please tell me how you are able to exchange it for a Px 130. I have a PX-120 too and I hate it because everytime I press anything near the middle C at a medium volume, the speakers REALLY distort it and I can hear buzzing sounds.  >:(

The only way I can practice in peace is if I use headphones... so I'm really trying to get a new privia if I can.

But yes, going back to the topic, I don't believe there is a lot of improvement between the two. However, I would gladly exchange it if the key action and sound have some sort of improvement. The PX-130 also has the USB slot included which makes it easier to transfer MIDI files to your computer.

I had a buzzing sound that came from within the plastic part in the middle (between the speakers) when I turned the volume half way up and set the piano to a lower bass setting. It's almost like you have the same problem?

I send it to Casio and got it back but it still suffered from the same problem, so I send it back again, but the problem remained when I got it back.

So because all of this they gave me the choice between a new PX-120 (they were talking about a different colour, but there is only one?) or a px130. I guess they offered me the px130 because it replaced the 120.

Yeah I think I have the exact same problem. I'd exchange the Privia for the 130.. hopefully its better. You could also visit a local store that sells the PX130 and try it out there and see if it's worth trading for.

Oh and I hope it's not a bother, but could you tell me what steps you took to get them to give you that option? Did you have to pay anything or did you need the warranty as well as the proof of purchase?

I hope you'll get your problem fixed too. It's a real pain.

I didn't have to pay any extra's only the first shipping costs. Yes, you need to have your warranty and proof of purchase. Either one will do.

Well, I didn't do a lot to let this happen:

1. I noticed the problem, contacted my online retail store.
2. They gave me an RMA number and the address of the nearest Casio suppor center.
3. I send the piano off to Casio
4. When I got it back the first time, I had to send it back again, because they still hadn't fix the problem
5. I waited and waited..
6. I got it back again, but they still didn't fix it.
7. I contacted my retail store and they would contact Casio for me to take care of it
8. My retail store mailed me that they were sorry for the problems and that Casio offered me a new privia px-120 or a px-130 without extra costs.

I still have a new px-120 stand, so if I am going for the 130 I will have to buy me a new stand. I mailed my retail store to arrange something.

Just be nice about it. I guess I was lucky to have great customer support from both Casio and my retail store.

Can you keep me posted?

Oh wow, yeah that's lucky you got good service from both of them.

The problem is it's been almost 4 years since I bought my piano so I'm not sure if the proof of purchase and warranty are still around. I'm going to try looking but it would be a bummer if I don't have it :(

Btw, what store did you buy it from? I got mine from Best Buy.

I guess the warranty is expired by now after 4 years, sorry. I got it from DwMusicstore. It’s a foreign company though. You should just contact Best Buy or your local Casio and explain them your problems with the piano. Maybe they can give you an estimate what the costs will be to get it repaired?

Don't you have an account on Best Buy? I guess that that's enough proof concerning the date?

I got my Px130.

I think it is not an improvement. It looks great, but the sound is very dull and fake compared to the PX120. The px 120 sounds more open, clear and more like a piano.

So I would stay with the PX120 when the same chance is offered to you.
