Post-impressionism
on: July 26, 2010, 02:10:49 AM
I was wondering what specific composers or even pieces are considered post-impressionist.
I was thinking Ravel, but he probably could be considered impressionist.
Is there a way to know for sure?
Thanks

There is no clear cut way to say who is what, for there are many ways of defining "post-impressionist". Ravel is still considered as an impressionist. For me, the composer that pops into my head when I think of "post-impressionism" is Dutilleux, for he takes many of the ideas from the impressionist movement and runs with them. However, others may have differing opinions. Like I said, whenever you add the "post-" prefix to a movement, it can be very subjective as to who is part of what.

I googled about post-impressionism, and really, there isn't much information about
the composers...only the artwork
