A. Molina - MALIKMATA - Enzo
on: July 27, 2010, 11:51:53 AM
Filipino National Artist for Music Antonio Molina was an avid admirer of Debussy. His compositions like MALIKMATA have "some passages with very impressionistic chords similar to Debussy with an exotic flavor" and mixing his own brand of romanticism.

This was one of the pieces played by Enzo in his recent solo recital. The closest I can think of for the Filipino word MALIKMATA is .... mirage ... illusion ...  This haunting, emphatic yet gentle composition has been adopted for so many genres including dance and poetry.

Wish you like the way Enzo interpreted the piece. THANKS for any comment!!

As always, you play with great conviction and maturity for one so young.  Bravo!

It is a very compact piece for the material involved, and I can see the obvious influence of Debussy; a more commercialized Debussy incorporating really many different flashes of influence in a small amount of time. It's like every breath is a new picture of past elements in music history which make the present Molina. Very interesting!

And of course, Enzo plays it with complete commitment and mastery, as always revealing his passion for the piano. Excellent! Thanks for sharing.
