Purchasing a Schulze Pollmann Grand
on: July 29, 2010, 05:38:55 PM
Hello all, I am in a bit of a unique situation and hoping I might be able to get some guidance.
I would consider my piano skills to only be at the beginner level --- one of the many folks who took lessons for years when I was younger, but didn't put in the practice time to actually become competant.
That said, for the past five or six years, I've had the desire to purchase a grand piano (I think a grand piano no is a much better center piece for a house than a tv...) and to restart lessons.
I recently moved to Italy and may have the opportunity to purchase a new Schulze Pollmann for a very good price as I should be able to purchase it tax free and the pianos are made in here in Italy.
According to the bluebookofpianos (not sure how reliable they are?)
Pollmann's Grand Pianos: 160/GK 5 ' 3 "  Polished Ebony  $32,792;197/G5 6 ' 7 "  Polished Ebony  $44,952 Ideally I was thinking of a piano around 5'8" - but would be more likely to go with the 5'3" rather than the 6'7".
Any input you might have on what would constitute a good price on a new Pollmann, and what other pianos would be considered comparable would be appreciated.
Thanks!
