Piano loans
on: August 01, 2010, 06:43:53 AM
I have been looking for a loan or award for a new piano. Since I'm 30, and not professional yet, I don't apply for most loans/awards. I need a piano which is around £6-7000, and can't find funding anywhere! There is a scheme which is called 'Take it away', but that loan is only £2000. If anyone has any ideas, please throw them in!

Thanks
Russell

Bigger piano shops will do finance deals, banks etc. will give you a personal loan. Failing that, just buy a cheaper piano!

Look for a second hand piano, there are plenty of good ones available.

Or you could find job in a piano store.  Practicing on the really expensive ones could be "getting to know the inventory   8)".  Plus you will have more money to buy your own.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

As said above, stop trying to get a certain amount of money, instead put more effort to look around for that bargain. Plenty of excellent second hand piano's around.

Banks giving loans?????????????

It would be better to pick the six opus numbers of your favourite compositions and buying a lottery ticket.

Provided, of course, thaat those favourite compositions were not the last five sonatas and Diabelli Variations of Beethoven...

That said, I must admit that the spectacle of banks that having been severely upbraided for making far too many unduly risky loans being upbraided again more recently by the UK Chancer of the Exchequer for not lending enough does contain its own wonderfully unique brand of amusement...

Thanks. I'll give up on new pianos, and try second hand. I'll also start gambling.

Loaning a piano is a suckers option. It is really a waste of money and only serves its purpose if you need a piano for a short period of time only and/or move house a lot. Some companies have good loan options though, a student of mine loaned a mid ranged Yamaha upright and they could rent for any amount of months and where not locked into a set term. The rental also included delivery and removal of the piano and a tuning. So bargain for these things if you are serious about loaning pianos.

I would loan the best piano possible if I was thinking about loaning a piano, what is the point in loaning a piano worth around 2 grand and in the end pay about 50% of its price after a year? Loan a piano worth a lot for short periods of time and calculate the % of its cost price with your rental repayment, the lower the % the better your deal, this is a good indication whether loaning pianos is  worth the bang for your buck.

With 2nd hand pianos you have to search for the pianos and view many many junky pianos until you find the one that is right for you. It is a long search, some people find it very fast but most of the time to find the bargain you need to search long and hard.
