Debussy - Prelude from Suite Pour le Piano - Lorenzo
on: August 12, 2010, 05:23:49 PM
This was recently played by Enzo in his solo piano recital. As aptly described the "Prelude from Suite pour le piano shows for the first time the harmonic elements, virtuosity, pianism and raw power that was to appear in Debussy's subsequent piano works after the Suite Bergamasque, until then the most adventurous of Debussy's compositions which included the harmonically sophisticated Clair de Lune.
We wish Enzo was able to some extent convey what the composer intended to express. Thanks so much for any comment or suggestion.

As always, a very convincing performance! I liked your touch in the pp parts. And your forte were never harsh. Bravo.
Remember the "un peu retardé" is just that: un peu. Don't stop the flow of the music, ever, until the final cadenza. In the latter, hold the b naturals longer. Only the last one is a quarter note. Listen to how the note diminishes on its own, and attack the "volanti" with the same sonority as the b you've just left. Get what I mean? The p and pp volanti, much more leggero.

Bravo, Enzo! In this Prelude, as elsewhere, you display a thorough musicianship and artistry. You are most expressive in your playing. Excellent! I enjoyed listening.
