Do I Have Something Here?
on: September 07, 2010, 11:01:19 PM
I have a Seth Thomas Metronome De Maelzel
Its in great condition and works just fine.
ON the bottom it says METRNOME #7 5601
I saw Seth Thomas clocks and they were expensive,
does anyone have an idea of what this is worth. I can take a picture if that'd help

I think the answer to your question depends on what you think the "something" may be. If your metronome functions well and has value to you, then you have something.
If, on the other hand, you meant "something rare and/or worth a lot of money," you're likely to be disappointed. Seth Thomas was a respected American manufacturer of clocks that is no longer in operation. The company's products were (and remain) fairly common, as a search at a site like eBay will reveal; search there on
"seth thomas" metronome
and you'll get an idea of what their vintage metronomes are selling for.
Personally, I think they're nice (and I have one that I actually bought on eBay about 10 years ago for $50 or so because it reminded me of the one I used as a kid). Most musicians at some point grew to prefer electronic (and now digital) metronomes, though, so the older generation of devices isn't particularly desirable or collectible.

Thanks. I appreciate the response. When I saw his clocks I got $$$ in my head. I am looking to sell it though I don't play. It's something that was given to me along with an old piano.
