Hamelin's Etudes?
on: October 11, 2010, 04:39:58 PM
Has anybody gotten this CD yet? I've listened to some of them and liked them. I hope it gets released on iTunes. He describes them as more than just virtuoso works; he says they are character pieces, and that's a neat way to put it.

Also, check out Harout Senekeremian playing some of them on YouTube (username "alkanian"). Pretty neat stuff.

So, has anyone gotten the CD or heard any of them? What do you think?

Haven't heard them yet, but since our musical tastes are similar, I expect I would enjoy them.

We at The Sorabji Archive supplied some of these for years while we continued to urge the composer to complete the cycle which is now done and is published by C F Peters (I have a copy); go buy and enjoy!

I may eventually purchase the score; I'm waiting for the CD to arrive first, which should be early next week.

I would like to disagree saying that they very much so came from his feelings.

There is lots of humor (sometimes subtle, sometimes not so much) in Hamelin's compositions, and the etudes are full of humor!

And afterward, they're just etudes. If you want feelings, don't expect to find a whole lot of feelings in 3-4 minute long etudes (although there are exceptions, obviously).

They're so hard yet sound very good. My favourite is the La campanella etude.
Funny? How? How am I funny?
