Inherited a 1946 Welmar Upright!

OK, so we're curious....

We have inherited a 1946 Welmar Upright piano, s/n 46146, in polished Mohogany with Herrburger Brooks action.

We were thinking we might sell it if it has some value, otherwise we might keep it for the kids.

Can anyone advise an approximate value or how we could determine it?

Welmar pianos were very good - I reckon the best ones made in Britain, though of course a lot depends on the model as small ones of any make are usually inferior to big ones in most ways. But it's completely impossible to put even a ballpark figure on the value of a piano that old as the condition could be anything from very good to practically unusable. The usual advice applies - ask a professional! A dealer will give you the price he's prepared to pay, but you'll get more detailed and less biased advice from a piano technician, although you'll likely have to pay him for his time. An experienced pianist should be able to give at least some idea of value, but paying a technician is the best way to go.
