Prelude 1, Joe Gargiulo
on: October 26, 2010, 06:49:58 AM
Prelude 1, published 8/27/10, is a pleasant, simple piece for piano students with 2 or 3 years study. The musical challenge is in making sense of the fragmented melody line with notes occurring only on counts 2 & 3 in 4/4 meter. Broken chord comp. is split between the hands and the L.H. crosses over for melody notes.
Hope you enjoy it. Comments welcome.

Lovely!  I enjoyed it very much.

Even though it;'s meant for a early intermediate student, and I would hardly suggest to a composer how to play their own music, I wonder if one can't bring out some hidden voices in the left-hand to avoid a little bit of sameness.  The way you composed it, there must be a lot of options for creativity there.

Thanks for posting,
Walter Ramsey

Thank you so much, Walter, I appreciate your comments. Good observations. I will look at that again for more musical possibilities. I usually use the term 'expressivo' for such pieces so the player can treat the piece more freely. I have enjoyed hearing some of my works played in very creative ways and have learned a great deal from the experience.
Thanks for listening and thanks again for your response.
