Piano Technician Introduction
on: November 10, 2010, 01:41:47 AM
Hello everyone!
I just wanted to introduce myself....My name is Franco Skilan and I am an RPT Piano Technician/Rebuilder located in North Hollywood CA. My company is Precision Piano Services, and we specialize in fine piano restorations.  I recently ran across the Pianostreet website, and I consider it be an informative and valuable source of information. I have never contributed to other piano website's "forums" in the past, due to the lack of quality information and advice that seems to be so prevalent.  I believe this site will prove to be different!
I will try to offer my honest and humble opinion in different discussions throughout this forum if I feel I have something useful to contribute! I look forward to getting to know some "regulars" as well.   Thanks for your time and if I can help in any way, please let me know!

Franco,

 Welcome.
I'm Curtis. havent' gotten around to the RPT tests yet. Still and associate member due to not getting to commitment to my daughters 5 day a week music program. I did a 2+ years apprenticeship and have a decent little tuning business going. Hope you don't mind if I "pick your brain" once in a while.
I still have a lot to learn. :-\

Hi Curtis,
Glad to meet you and thanks for the welcome! I encourage you to try and attend as many of your local chapter meetings as you can, as well as the Regional and National Conventions.    After being in the business close to 35 years, I learn something new all the time.  The last National Convention in Las Vegas was well attended and had lots of new classes.
This month the L.A. Chapter along with Steinway Piano Gallery in Beverly Hills is hosting Bob Dove from Steinway and Sons.  He will be speaking about the Essex and Boston piano lines and their relationship with Steinway.  Should be a GREAT meeting with a wealth of information.
I'll be glad to offer advice whenever I can, just ask!

Mr. Rebuilder,

I am SO looking forward to attending meetings on a regular basis, however, for now my daughter is taking piano lesson twice per week and an all day cello progrram on Saturdays along with marching band an jazz band on the other 4 days. Unfortunately, that leaves daddy 0 days for the PTG. She will be off to college in Sept. so like I said.....I am SO SO SO looking forward to attending meetings and eventually getting my RPT.  ;D
