Do adult beginners ever take the exams?

Hello!!

I'm new to the forum and excited to restart piano lessons next month (when my last semester of school is done -only 3 more weeks!! WHOHOO)

I'm halfway through grade 1RCM and was wondering,

Do adult beginners ever take the first few exams? I really want to take the exams but I just picture myself in a waiting room full of 5 years olds!  :P  (I'm 26)

Did anyone here take grade 1 exam or did you wait until later grades? Do you think many adult beginners even do exams?

I did a gr. 1 exam and the kid in front of me was 7 and I was in my 40's.   :D  The benefit of taking a lower grade exam is that you find out what to expect while the demands are less.  I was taken seriously by the examiner, and some adults said they wished they had the courage to do the same.  If this is what you want to do, go for it.

I started to learn the piano at 69 from scratch. Pioneered a few months on my own, but decided to take lessons. Did the Grade 1 exam and failed. Did some serious talking with my ever patient teacher. She said that I, if I wanted,  could learn the piano without going through the Grades.
That's what I do and I love it. Progress is slow, but I don't give up.
