Color of piano affects anything? :)
on: January 08, 2011, 08:19:26 PM
Yes.  Dumb question.  But then I wonder about it.

Does the color of a piano affect anything about it?

Black could absorb more heat (if you had it in direct sunlight).

I started wondering if the different finishes on "naked" wood, light tan, dark tan, or whatever they coat a black piano with would have any effect on sound or touch.

I think "perception" of sound can be affected by the finish/color of a piano.  I can say that a Plexi glass piano is significantly different in its' tonal nature compared to their wood constructed counterparts... I have seen and played numerous Kawai and Schimmel plexi's and they are always different in character to the same wooden model  because of the nature of the material.

Serious pianists play only polished black gloss or satin ebony pianos.  ;D

Hey, don't knock the dark brown ones.  Those can be nice too.  Little tan?  No, certainly not.

I just saw my post on the recent threads page and had to check to the title to figure out what I was talking about.  Haha.
