Repetoire
on: January 23, 2011, 05:59:55 PM
Hello.
This is my first post.
I've played piano since august 2010. So far, my repetoire consists of
Träumerei
Von Fremdem Ländern und Menschen (Of foreign lands and people)
Chopin Prelude 4
Chopin Largo E-flat major
Moonligt Sonata mvt 1.
Bach Prelude 1 in C Major.
What do you recommend as my next piece to learn?

Oh good. Both Chopin and Beethoven only wrote one piece each, so picking just one composer will make it easy.

It is "repertoire", not "repetoire".

If this work is so threatening, it is not because it's simply strange, but competent, rigorously argued and carrying conviction.

Well, I suggest some Mozart or Haydn, since neither features in your list. There should be plenty of sonatas and other pieces by them that you could manage with a little work. Grab a volume and have some fun sight-reading!

Mozart
Probably. Check out the second movement of the Sonata K. 280.
Also, check into Bartok's Mikrokosmos and some of Shostakovich's short pieces.

Hello Fred. Without actually seeing how you play, I can only assume that with such a short time studying , there is more to be learned for you at this stage from bach two part inventions and from Clementi Sonatinas then from more advanced material. Also if I might make a small suggestion , you might do better posting over on the student board also.
Good Luck with your studies, Lady Pianist.
