What style of play do you call this?
on: January 31, 2011, 02:42:52 PM
Hello! This is my first post here. I've always been a music and sound oriented person and had took music in 6th grade but never had to resources to go further. I'm in my late 20's now and maybe would like to get back into it someday.

I'd like to ask what this style of play is called, I figure it has a name for the simple chord repetition/ chop sound. These all have same the pattern to keep the pace. I just don't know what it's called. It's gotta be something out of day 2 beginner lessons. LOL.

I'm providing examples from the rap/hip-hop genre (Not work safe lyrics), so just a warning for those who don't like it. I know a lot of the original samples- in fact, that's part of why I like hip-hop so much is going back and finding the original inspiration and discovering that artist's music, so please don't assume I think all these songs are original material. LOL!

Cool thanks. I definetly understand the type of key striking.

Is there another term for that simple repetitive chord thing? When did that first appear in music history?

Repeated chords has been done since ages back. Those repeated staccato chords was probably the 1800-something. Maybe earlier, but not very often.

Could you think of any classical pieces that are structured like that?  I love classical stuff especially when the harpsichord is used.

There is a lot of examples for instance - motor bass, as in mozart "Eine Kleine Nacht Musik" after the opening statements.
vivaldi four-seasons would be a good example for this.

in fact, I think vivaldi's music full of examples like this
