Need a new piece
on: February 06, 2011, 08:20:08 PM
Hi everyone. I really need a new piece to learn, ive finished with the others ive been learning and i am struggling to find something new. I play at a good standard but cannot play anything that is around level 7 or above. I have a few ideas:
Mozart- Allegro First movement ( from sonata in C).
The arrival of queen sheba by handel. Cannon first movement in D.
Fur elise- beethoven
Swan lake theme- Tchaikovsky, the arrangments are all similar in Level. Any other suggestions of great pieces for an intermediate piano player would be much appreactiated as well. Thank you for reading.

I started reading bass clef around 3 months ago. Previously i just used play pieces that used a treble clef and had chords written above it. That was about 2 years but i wasnt very dedicated, i just wanted to learn. I am now doing A- level music at school, i got a proper piano for christmas and now play bass clef and treble cleff.  Im really loving it and practise all the time. So i would say around 3 months properly although i can sight read anything on the treble clef with ease now because of all the practise ive had previously.

Chopin Raindrop Prelude?

I learned it a few years ago, and it's still one of my favorites. :)

I think it's about a level 7.
Currently:
Chopin Grand Valse Brilliante
Mozart Piano Sonata K 332
Scriabin Preludes Op 11 no.5,6,7
Bach Prelude and Fugue in G minor

Umm... how about some Bach 2-part inventions??

No. 1,  No.8,  and No.10 are nice.

I don't have a specific piece to recommend, but when I was around the standard you are I had this book called 'World Renowned Piano Pieces'. It's got most of the famous pieces of around grade 6-7 standard so great for deciding what to play next.

Im still not sure how well you play, but here is a thought.  Both Mozart.

Fantasy in D Minor K397

Rhondo in D K485

They are both really nice, not to demanding technically  and unlike the Sonata in C Allegro would give you a finished piece.  The fantasy I think is the easier of the 2.

Beethoven's g major sonata.  op 49 no 2

I agree, that's a nice piece for your level. If you want to go for something slightly harder, try the Op 49 no 1.

Sorry for being offtopic but how can I tell the level of a piece?

Have you tried Saties Gymnopedies? They are really unusual cos they have no bar lines!! I learnt it from this website my teacher uses where they tell you how the piece is supposed to go and how to practise it. Its called E-MusicMaestro and I checked out the url of some free stuff you can listen to https://bit.ly/eDnwB3

Beethoven 's Sonata Op 49 No 2 is a good longer piece for your level.  My son is playing at this level and just finished this up.  It was a nice challenge without being overwhelming.  The 2nd movement seems a breeze after the first.

This is a book he is working out of right now (among others).

https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/Applause-Book-One/3535127

This book is filled with pieces all at that level.  They all tend to be fun and showy pieces.  My kid is learning Puck by Grieg right now from this book.  FUN!  (don't know who's playing in this recording, just a nicely played rendition we found)

The book could keep you busy for a while.
