A new repertoire.
on: February 08, 2011, 06:06:13 PM
I don't have anything against Chopin, quite the contrary, I always want to learn a new piece of him. However, I think I need to wide my repertoire and learn new pieces of other composers like Mozart, Bach, Debussy, Beethoven, etc. so I can get a better technique
Could you give me some suggestion?
I think I am in level 5.

I would suggest Scarlatti sonatas, Heller studies and Bach preludes/fugues and 2 part inventions.

I agree about the above user about everything, except the prelude/fugues. Well maybe you could try the preludes, but I think the fugues may be a little too hard of you're at a level 5. (If you're referring to the level system that pianostreet uses).
Fur Elise is a very nice piece, and about your level I think. (Though maybe a little overplayed)
Mozart Fantasy in D minor is also nice. It may be slightly over the level you said, but you may be able to handle it.
Hope this helps.

Take a look at the Bach 2 part inventions. Nothing else will improve your playing more than these will. Another thought would of course be Clementi Sonatina's . They are very musical and to play them well is still challenging. Best of luck .
