Piano Piece for Anniversary
on: February 24, 2011, 12:56:25 AM
Well I have been stalking around the forums for quite some time and decided to finally join in. I am gonna be careful with this first post because so often they seem to be the subject of much ridicule.

To put it rather simply its my wife and I's 5 year anniversary in 2 months and I would like to play a piece for her. When we where engaged I played moonlight sonata for her and she loved it. I figured I would sort of remind her that I still love her as much as I did then.

Now I am not a beginner but I am not an expert by any means. For instance last Year I picked up a Bowan piece and tried to play it. It took me roughly a month and a half to power my way through his op.155 toccata. It was a bit of a struggle in the beginning and took countless hours of practice in my spare time. I am not what one would consider "properly trained" though I try to use proper technique.

So all of that to ask you, the forum goers of piano street, if you could help me find a piece for my wife that she would enjoy. Thanks so much in advance

The question here is ask is what sort of music does she like?
Bach - Partita No.2
Scriabin - Etude 8/12
Debussy - L'isle Joyeuse
Liszt - Un Sospiro

Goal:
Prokofiev - Toccata

Well I talked about moonlight sonata, she loves that piece. But alas I have played it for her before. I am asking for something similar in level of difficulty but also beauty. Not some thing that is hard sounding but more melodies. Rather like a sonata.

Given your skill level, I would highly suggest Satie, Gymnopedie 1. Take a listen on Youtube and see if you think she'd like it.

It's totally doable in 2 months, and quite popular with the ladies.

Thank you so much, this is exactly what I was looking for. She will love it, plus it doesnt seem to be too difficult.

Thanks again
