etudes your favourites

I am somewhat curious to know which piano etudes are among the ones you find the most rewarding.
Say given 3 categories : beginner - intermediate - advanced.
Bach of course.
But then there are numerous later on : clementi, cramer, czerny,moscheles, brahms, chopn, moskowski, scriabin, ...

or if you like : for finger independance: x,  for velocity: y, and so on.

But I find Brahms 50 exercises hard to place.

I know, 1 etude played to perfection, is better than a 1000 touched in the air let's say.

But still any ideas are welcome.

Hi im not even sure what you where saying, but thats probably my musical ignorance and no fault of yours.  My favorite etudes in no particular order are

Chopin -  op 10 numbers 3,4,5,7,12

liszt - La campanella

Scriabin op 8 #12 - I things thats it. You know the one all the greats tend to do all the time.

Beginner: Burgmuller's op 100 25 easy etudes.

Moderate: chopin's op 10 and op 25.

Liszt's 3 concert etudes. Liszt's ab irato the etude of perfection.

Really hard: Liszt's 12 transcendental etudes.


I only played the burgmuller's but they are musically fun and easy to learn.

I'm sorry, but.. Chopin's etudes are faaaar from moderate.


For beginners: Czerny or Burgmuller. Maybe some of the clementi

Moderate: Czerny and Clementi

Difficult: Chopin, Still more Czerny and Clementi (not as difficult, buit not all of them are easy) and Liszt etudes

Yes, Chopin is at the top I think to.
I'm looking at some etudes tableaux rachmaninov. Beautiful pieces, but hard to.
But it's difficult to stick at some.
I learned a lot from Brahms to. But his variations (esp the paganini) are huge, but rewarding.
I only try some of the first. Very difficult.
Also, some chopins, liszt is beyond my capabilities for the moment.

Easy:
Burgmuller
Progressive
Harmony of the Angels
Bartok
pentatonic Tune
study for the left hand

Medium:
Burgmuller
The gypsies
Morning Bell(? forgot the name)
Mario T.(forgot last name.. lol)
Dance of the Marionettes
Loeschorn (sp?)
Song of the Waterfall

Advanced:
Rachmaninoff
Etude Tableaux op.33 no.8 in g minor

Scriabin
Etude in C#-

Really difficult:
Chopin
Etudes Op.10 Nos. 4,5,12
Etudes Op.25 Nos. 1,5,11,12

Liszt
La Campanella
Transcendental Etude no.4 mazeppa

Interesting to see Burgmuller coming back again.
Never did any of him. I will take a closer look.
If any of you have experiences with the Debussy etudes, glad to hear from you.
Harmonically and technically they are so demanding, I don't find the courage to begin.
Uchida's version is awesom.
