Maybe one of you computer savvies can explain to me how I can tape something on youtube that goes over 10 minutes and I don't have to break up a sonata, for example.

I thought the limit was 15 minutes now :/
 and unlimited for "some users"...
Youtube said in December that they would “begin allowing selected users with a history of complying with the YouTube Community Guidelines and our copyright rules to upload videos that are longer than 15 minutes.”

Sorry if this didn't help much... this is all I know.

Yes I think it's 15 minutes now too! Although I haven't tried uploading such long videos yet but it said some time ago when I logged in : "congratualtions you can now upload videos up to 15 minutes long" something like that (not exactly with these words I think it was more something like: your account is now..... I don't know what)  :P So I think you should be able to upload videos that are 15 minutes long too... have you tried it yet?

Yes, and they said 10" was the limit.  Maybe it's because I haven't been user for many years.  well, we'll see...

It says that all users get 15 minutes minimum though ... :-\ And some others can exceed 15 minutes.

Maybe you could contact youtube??

I've only been on Youtube a month longer, and one of those users who is now allowed to upload videos *exceeding* 15 minutes....

Of course, that would be including the masterclass commentary   :)

Exactly.  I just did a video for kelly-kelly.  It lasted 12 minutes approximately.  I go through imagemixer3 and I put it on youtube through this programme.  This programme says that after 10 minutes they will have to cut it and continue on a new take.  In fact, you'll find two youtube things on the sonett.   Do I HAVE to go through imagemixer3?  Can't I go directly to youtube where I have 15 minutes available?  I have just updated the programme - it might be that they will now allow me 15 minutes, I don't know.

About 2-3 months ago the following message just appeared when I tried to upload
a video in YT:

Congratulations! Your account is now enabled for uploads longer than 15 minutes.
Click the Upload button below to select a video.

So I guess I am a lucky one.. ;D  From the message one can infer that 15 minutes is
the new limit for the not so lucky ones.  As to how one gets to be privileged with over
15 minute posts? ... don't know.

But where do you put it on your computer?  You have to load it somewhere.

Are we talking about downloading FROM youtube, or uploading ONTO youtube?

If you're uploading, select the video from your computer, and just upload it directly on youtube... Downloading is slightly more difficult if you wanna do it the old fashioned way, but there are now a lot of freeware that lets you download youtube videos.

But that's my question.  From WHERE on the computer if it's not in a programme like image mixer.  Where  do I load it on to in my computer?

That's a really hard question to answer. It depends on what you took the video with, and how you put it on your computer.

For example, if you took it on a jailbroken iPhone, you can just copy the file onto your computer, in which case you can store it anywhere you like. What are you taking your videos with? How are you uploading them on your computer? With this image mixer thing?

usually cameras and such can connect to the computer via a USB... and then you just pull the file onto your computer...

I'm still not really sure what you're asking.

I guess image mixer came with a sony camcorder?

I use to record videos with a canon camcorder or a Zoom q 3 and then edit them with iMovie or MovieMaker. But since it took me ages to upload a video directly from iMovie I just export it to my harddisk first, in MOV or WMV or whatever format I want to use and upload it directly to youtube, it's much faster.

Youtube generally accepts a wide variety of video formats.  In many cases you can directly upload an unedited video in its original format - no video program needed.

Copy the video from your camera to your computer.  Go to Youtube, find where you saved that video on your computer, then upload.

I recently had my YouTube account upgraded so that I can upload anything over 15 minutes. Does anyone know why they did this? Am I just that popular of a user on YouTube?

@retrouvailles If you haven't violated copyright, and Youtube feels like they can trust you, they might decide to give you over 15 minutes.

It can be taken away at any time  :o

EDIT: Cool channel (:

Haha, actually I have a history of violating copyrights. I've been notified at least 5 times. I usually remove the video right after, though. I am not violating anything right now, as far as I know.
