Need a a piece to advance from my curent position
on: March 22, 2011, 02:36:42 PM
Ok first off, I'm a Grade 6 student of the Trinity foundation of music. My exams ended last year sometime in November, and while I've got to go for classes again, school exams held me up for a while, I'll probably be continuing anytime soon.
I've played some pieces, mastered a few. I'm looking to widen the collection of pieces I know. Currently, i've learnt the following- In the mirror, One man's dream, Encahntment and Until the last moment, all by Yanni, oh and Rondo Alla Turca by Mozart, Fur Elise by Beethoven, I'm also working on the 1st movement of Beethoven's moonlight sonata.
The thing is now, I'm a bit bored of playing the moonlight sonata and I need a new piece I need to start trying. I'm also trying to compose at the moment.... kinda a mix between arabic/hungarian and the normal classical music. Any suggestions on how to go about my composition?

I am a little confused as to what you are asking. Are you saying you would like suggestions on classical pieces, or help with composing? As far as composing pieces go, first become very familiar with the piano. Become very familiar with the keys and scales, something that I found helped a lot.
Once I was familiar with these things, I just sat down and played. It came very easily to me because I knew what went with what (like what was the mediant, dominant, subdominant ect.)
Good luck with your studies!
