To be a well rounded pianist you need to explore different composers. Evidently, your techer thought it was time to introduce you to Schumann. But it sounds as though you don't like the Phantasiestucke. As a compromise, what about playing something else by Schumann that you might like better? Take a look at the Arabesque, Op. 18, the Novellette, Op. 21, No. 1 in F, and the Romance, Op. 28, No. 2. Each is a character piece, and all are different in mood. I'll bet you'll like one of them, as all are "soundful" in different ways.
