Good Piano Concertos to Start With
on: March 28, 2011, 02:39:22 PM
I've been playing the piano for about 4 years now and I think I want to learn a piano concerto....maybe by Mozart.
Could you suggest some Piano Concertos I could start with
Thanks =)

Give some examples of things you can play so we can get an idea of your level of advancement.
I think one of the easiest concerti is the Haydn concerto in D major, I forget the Hoboken number.
There might be a Mozart or Bach concerto selected movement you could play.
You might also think about a Haydn or Mozart trio to play instead if you want experience playing with instruments.

I can play Bach's Minuet in G, Prelude and Fugue in C from the Well Tempered Clavier, Prelude in C minor from WTC. C.P.E. Bach's Solfegietto, Mozart's Sonata no. 11, Beethoven's For Elise and Moonlight Sonata, Chopin's Tristesse and Oesten's Doll's Dream.
I know its not that much advanced but my teacher says that I'm quite ready to learn a simple concerto.

Thanks brriker! My teacher didn't suggest any concertos for me to play she said it was my choice since I'm going to be the one to play it in our recital this August. So a list of the things I can play are on the last reply so if you can now suggest the concertos please list them down.
Thanks ever so much
Luke =)

Shostakovich's second piano concerto isn't too hard.

This is a nice student concerto:
Haydn is also a possibility... I would stay away from Mozart for now.

I've heard Grieg is doable.

With the OP's repertoire, not really? (No offense intended - 4 years isn't long to have been learning.)

I recommend Mozart Piano Concerto no. 19 in F, K. 459 - the first movement has but modest technical demands on the soloist. Really, check it out on IMSLP or something. With practice I'm sure you can do it!

Bach - Partita No.2
Scriabin - Etude 8/12
Debussy - L'isle Joyeuse
Liszt - Un Sospiro
Goal:
Prokofiev - Toccata
