Rachmaninoff's Third - help me find it!
on: December 31, 2002, 07:28:24 PM
where could I find the free sheet music for Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto 3 in D Minor? i got a real copy but its got the whole orchestra on it, it looks good but its a little confusing practicing with so many instruments at the same time. I need the piano only version, but as I paid $40 for this one, I dont want to buy it!
any ideas?

Umm... I don't know of anywhere that you can get the score for free, but you can buy a copy of the third concerto with the solo piano part, and the orchestra part reduced for a second piano for about $8 anywhere on the web... If you get the G. Schirmer edition, that will hold up pretty well, and it's a decent price... That's really what I would reccomend doing... It's a great investment to have the actual book, not a bunch of looses papers... Especially with a piece like that Rach. 3...

Hey... I just thought of something... How long have you had your complete score? Could you return it? Depending on where you bought it, I've returned stuff before... In fact, I made the same mistake with the same concerto!!!! Just a thought...

The edition on SMA (sheetmusicarchive.net) has got the mentioned orchestra in it. Boosey&Hawkes has released a 2-piano reduction of the Concerto, meaning the piano part should be as it is in the actual orchestrated version, but there is another piano doing the work of orchestra. And its fairly easy to read, not that you'd need to read it fast knowing how the actual music is. lol

You guided him to SMA, I said that its got the orchestral score on it, and that one he already has. Who was it that was searching for the reduction?

I just knew that they had the rach 3 there...
But i didn't know whether it was 2 pianos or orchestra version so i said it would be good to have a look there....
It just seemed like you were telling me what a 2 piano reduction was...
