So, why not make a thread about it?

Candidates? Just any baby piece? Or a specific set?

If we're doing a specific set, I have 2 candidates I would like to put forth:

Debussy's Children's Corner

Burgmuller's 25 Etudes

Pick one of mine or bring your own :)

(If we're doing burgmuller I'm TOTALLY calling harmony of the angels, so HANDS OFF :P)

Debussy's Children's Corner = baby pieces? :|

What do you define as a "baby" piece anyway? :P

EDIT: I vote for a random piece because I like variety, but one for each key... and if it's not really in any key we'll just go by the key signature? :) I mean once I played a "baby" piece with one flat and one sharp in the key signature

Don't like it, then give your own suggestion :)

I don't know, littletune used the word baby, so I just followed what she said, that's all.

I was thinking between level 3-9 RCME...

Or we can have project 24 with kabalevsky's 24 little pieces for children :P

Hmm, I have a lot to choose from then! I'm excited! But, what about introductory, 1, 2? :P
Maybe I'll have my sister join in... and play Mysterious Summer's Night  8) or a little prelude.

Edit again: What about the little Preludes? I vote for that, too. The Kabelevsky looks interesting, but I wouldn't know where to find the sheet music.

Hmm yes :) so... which pieces will we be playing?  :P Well I'm not completely sure if I'm already level 3 RCME (cause I have no idea what RCME is  :P )
But the Bach Menuet that I'm learning now (for my exam) is I think from Notebook of Anna Magdalena. :) Or I could learn a piece that Mozart wrote when he was 6  :P or something...

Well I don't know... I'm playing a lot of baby pieces (cause baby pieces are all I'm playing  :P ) so maybe we should say something about what kind of pieces we should record anyway  :-\ I mean at least something... or not? I mean so it wouldn't get too confusing? Or maybe we could have different categories (or however you say that) :) Like what composer or what period or level or something.... I don't know...  :)

I am down for as easy as it gets!  But, Bach AMB is perhaps a good choice, or Burgmuller (though, those are not as easy as it gets!).  But, it seems more like we're going fairly random here.  I might start off myself with SUPER DUPER easy, like, something I can memorize and record in 20 mins.  :o (that is not the Bach or Burgmuller for me, just in case that is not evident).

ByE!

As a matter of fact, let me go select right now!

Cool m1469!  8) I wouldn't mind playing as easy as it gets either  :P And well Bach (this Menuet that I'm learning now) is for me about as difficult as it gets  :P (even though I'm kinda proud cause since tuesday when I started learning it with both hands together and I was thinking I will never be able to learn it! I almost got it right today  :P I'm really happy about it  :) )

Well I was thinking I would maybe play some pieces that I'm learning by myself (not with my teacher). And I would really like to play one piece by Erik Satie, What the Little Tulip Princess Says :) But that one I couldn't memorize and record in 20 minutes  :) (but it is still easier than this Bach Menuet) :) Oh and I also like one piece The Midget Racer. :) ... Hmm well maybe everyone should write a list of baby pieces that they would like to play  :P  :)  8)

That's a good idea, Littletune!  I'll make a list of ... say ... 10 pieces to start with and add to it if I really like the project!  But, I'll just edit this post, I think:

(I'm not sure about copyright for some of these, so I may have to edit this, as well)

Castilian Tale from "Master Class Series" by Janet Vogt and Martha Sherrill Kelsey
Fiesta Flourish from "Superstar Solos 'N Stickers" by Janet Vogt and Martha Sherrill Kelsey
Interlude from "Lyric Preludes in Romantic Style" by William Gillock
Mexican Hat Dance Folk Dance, in Alfred's "Basic Piano Library Recital Book, level 3"
Blues in F from "Pop Piano Styles" by Bastien(s)
Ballade by Willard Palmer
The Shepherd from "The Joy of Modern Piano Pieces" selected and edited by Agay.

Burgmuller:
Angels' Voices (Harmony of the Angels)
Sorrow
Ballade

I'll come back when I can and add more.  The Burgmuller's might be more like a couple/few days of 20-minute sessions, or more.  I'm not sure.  The top ones I think I could do each of them in a single 20 mins session, but I'm not sure about copyright for those!  I'm sad if I can't play them, though, because I really like all of those and I'm secretly quite jealous everytime I get to assign those to a student, because I would have adored playing them when I was young  :'(.

WOOT!

Don't worry... I mean in the project 24 (or 27) there are also some pieces that two people will be playing... I mean it can be intersting to hear how two different people play the same piece.  :)

Oh I didn't ask because I found it in Wikipedia. It wasn't very difficult  :P  :)

Well ok I REALLY wanna write my list! But now when I was trying to choose I just can't decide! there's so many "baby pieces" I wanna play!!  :P But ok... I'll write the ones I'm really sure I'll play... :)
so... hmm...
- Erik Satie - What the Little Tulip Princess Says
- Igor Dekleva - Bunda Brunda (it's about bears dancing :) )
- Slovenian folk song - Izidor ovčice pase (maybe I'll sing too if it won't sound too horrible!  :P )
- J. Thompson - Little Penguin (at least that's the title in my language)
- John Thompsonn - The Midget Racer

- Then maybe one extra little baby piece - Coconut  :P
- Then maybe one more extra little baby piece - Snowy hills  :P that I wrote for my mum (but she hasn't learned it yet cause she never has time  ::) but it would be cool if she could play it!)
- J. Kotschau - The Cuckoo and the Donkey
- Slovenian folk song - Barčica (Boat)
- Igor Dekleva - Pomladna pesem (Spring Song)

So this is my list of baby pieces, maybe I'll change or add something or I'll play them in a different order than I wrote them...  :P But this is for now  :)  8)

@ littletune, I can't decide what to play either... there are too many wonderful composers with wonderful pieces! And I can't seem to play them right :-/ I think I'll just pick the ones that mean the most to me... like "my first recital piece", "my first exam piece", or something like that (:
but your pieces look really interesting. I've never heard of them before :)

Well, I disagree but see your point.  If we wanted to do something like Schumann's "Scenes from Childhood" --which, btw, I started ages ago with almost zero success-- then that's one thing.  However, those are not "baby" pieces even moreso than the Burgmuller's are not.  But, I've aimed at starting enough projects around here to know they generally go almost nowhere.  For me, to create a list of small pieces that are fairly easy for me and that I actually *really* want to play (though, the Burgmuller's will take longer than the others), and then to actually record them, that IS a project that falls under the title name of this thread.  But, perhaps not what you had in mind.  If you have something else in mind and it's open to other participants, and if I feel like I can manage to participate, great!  But, I'm doing what I'm doing because it's important to me that I do!

For me, I have wanted to play smaller pieces for a long time and it feels like a project.  I want to play Harmony of the Angels no matter what.  There is nothing stopping me from posting it as a random recording in the audition room, even if somebody else plays it.  Anyway, the point is, for me, at least this project has started!  I have actually already even made a recording and even though I didn't do a second one yesterday, I probably will today! :)

Well, that's exactly what I mean, you can post it in the audition room regardless of whether this thread existed or not, so it's not unlike any of the other pieces in the audition room.

What I'm trying to say, is not necessarily put a strict boundary on what pieces to play and what not to, but asking for a suggestion on how to tie this all together. After everyone's done posting what they wanted, how are we going to gather, organize and present them? Or will everyone just post what they want in the audition room, in which case this thread would be worthless?

Well, you are asking as though I should know why you started this thread.  Why'd you start the thread, exactly?  What did you have in mind so as to know that anybody is even straying?  The collections you mentioned in your original post are not *that* baby of pieces.  Like I said, if you want to do a collection, fine.

My desire in doing this is to gain experience in knowing what it really feels like to rather easily play something and to do so musically under a little pressure.  I personally need that experience, in my opinion!  So, when Littletune mentioned doing "baby pieces" I said I'd like to join in.  I have no idea if this is what she had in mind, either!  But, she recommended that we each write a list of pieces we'd like to learn for this, I thought it was a good idea and so I did, and so have others.  This thread, so far, seems to have served as a means to see who is interested, what the possibilities are (and, at my old age, time is of the essence so I decided to stop ideling around trying to decide anything further and start posting), etc..  If it doesn't fit into whatever your original idea was, then clearly state what you want!  If you don't know but you love the thread as your very child, then we can use it as an index or something, to link to people's collections.

I *think* I am going to post all of mine into one thread in the audition room, but I'm not sure.  If that *were* the case, though, we could easily organize a thread which indexes each of us and links to our collections.  Wham, bham, thank you mam.

In any event, don't be too offended!  As I've said, I've started plenty of threads and projects with great intentions and many of them have been so derailed and side-tracked and fruitless!  This one already has fruit, even, and interested people!  So, you're a success, don't you worry about a thing  ;D.

If you want to kick me out of your thread and project, feel free and I'll just go about doing what I'm doing all by my lonesome  :'(.  I've got a project in mind, you see?  Now, to get to either calling my little neice for her B-day, doing taxes, singing, reading books, pulling weeds, working out, or perhaps just back to the piano since I spent my "break" writing this!

Hmm well yes I guess it's a little complicated... I mean if we decided for pieces just from one composer than we would all have to have sheet music and also probably those kind of "baby pieces" wouldn't really be THAT baby or easy... I don't know...
I mean it would be cool if we once decided to all play pieces from the same composer or something!  8) But until we do... just random "baby pieces" are kinda cool too!  :P I mean it can still be a project! You know to play and post pieces that we otherwise wouldn't cause we would think they're to easy and babyish... but now with this project it's like it's allowed to post "baby pieces" (even if they're so easy we can learn and record them in 20 minutes) :)

So I guess this is for now... and later we can still decide for something else.  :)  :P

I will now probably post the most "extra small or baby piece of baby pieces"  ;D Well I mean I would of course never posted something like that but now just to start with this I will cause to me it's really fun.  :P  :)

That's how it seems and it has been my experience that we spend WAY more time deciding what to do than actually doing much of anything at all!

Yeah, for me, I would love to sometime do a project that involves people putting together another collection.  The "Project 24" is another good example.  Some people are "signing up" but most aren't really promising anything -- which is fine.  That's why I went ahead and put 4 etudes up there to begin with, as I suspected it wouldn't actually fill up ... at least not overwhelmingly quickly!  Those are bigger projects for me, for sure!  But, they are something I am doing anyway, so I am doing the project.

So, for other projects that aren't quite easy for me, I don't feel I have time for right now.  That's why I want to do something super easy!  Eventually, I still would like to record something like the Bach's inventions, but those aren't actually baby pieces, exactly, either.  So, since I feel like I'm missing baby pieces in my experience, but I haven't felt like those are where my main practice emphasis lay, I guess I'll just wait for some of those until they ARE baby pieces to me anymore ... and then I'll fill in the gaps :).

Yes, I agree!  I mean, I don't think I've really done Mr. Bastien a great disservice in doing a musical recording of a selection from one of his books!  And, other teachers can hear some pieces they may have not ever heard before, too, and perhaps would end up enjoying to assign their students.

Yeah, projects are only limited to time and desire!

And to me, part of what makes it fun is to play it exactly as good as you can!  My list of baby pieces isn't even as small of pieces necessarily as I was thinking originally, but then when you mentioned to make a list of pieces we want to play, I realized I really have this rather large list of little pieces that I would really like to play!  I simply want to know what that's like!

Hmm well I know everyone forgot about this already... but I think I'll be posting some "baby pieces" now during the holidays  :P I know I know I'm annoying  ::) but well... I will try to post today if I can...  :P and well... I will make a new thread that will then be for all my "baby pieces" (and the one I already posted will be for "extra baby pieces" if I ever record some of those again)  :P Hmm well, I'll see if I'll have enough time to post now...  :P

I didn't forget and it's not boring to me!
