Inspirational piano books
on: April 12, 2011, 09:49:51 PM
Greetings! I am a fairly new adult piano student who is actually more comfortable with the written word than with sheet music, although I've played instruments off and on in the past.
I really enjoyed "Piano Notes," the recent book that Piano Street recommended. I would appreciate very much recommendations on other books that describe methods of practice that would help me enjoy and progress in my studies. I do enjoy history, so biographies would be fine as well. My teacher is wonderful, a Juilliard grad, so I am not looking so much for precise technical guidance as inspiration and different ways of approaching and appreciating the piano. I played the harp in the past, but suffered an injury due to overzealous practicing and find the piano much more friendly physically as well as offering much more in expressive range.
Thanks very much for any suggestions!

The sadiest thing in life is getting injured by practicing.
I also want to know some biographical books.

3 piano books that have had my attention in the last year or so:
The Best of Rock'n'Roll Piano A Step-by-Step Breakdown of Keyboard Styles and Techniques by David Bennett Cohen
JS Bach Inventions & Sinfonias BWV 772-801 Edited and annotated by Richard Jones
Improvising Blues Piano by Tim Richards
More generally, The Rest is Noise by Alex Ross has opened my mind to 20th century music
