I think it's really a headphone ad, but the idea is interesting.  I've wondered what it takes to recreate an event/space/memory.  You can get pretty close -- light, temp, humidity, odors, and sound.

Definitely not unique to christmas songs; This is such a frequently used harmonic progression that you could basically assign it to any holiday, or genre, or whatever...
Bach really liked to use these in his chorales. Whenever I was asked in harmony class to compose Bach-like progressions, I'd always throw in one of those... Worked every time Smiley
