A question about playing piano
on: June 07, 2011, 03:03:14 PM
I have a problem that is about reading the sheet music that you have never seen before and then playing on piano. Should I first try to play the piece with right hand then left hand then both hands or smt like that. I mean I dont know which one should be applied while studying piano. Should the standard be like reading the sheet and playing on piano with both hands at the same time? (Obviously I'm trying to do that on czerny etudes 100 but it's too hard.)
Thank you! (and sorry for poor English.).

Actually, I want to play a new piece that I have never seen, like instantly reading and playing at same time. But it's too hard. How Can I Improve this method? With Playing first one hand and then the other hand?

There are two different skills. When you're learning to play a piece it's best to start hands separately in order to get each hand right before putting them together. However, sight reading is also an important skill in piano playing. When you're learning a piece it's best to correct your mistakes so that you don't teach yourself the wrong notes, but when you're sight reading you have to learn to carry on regardless of your mistakes because otherwise you'll be out of time. For this reason I'd recommend using easier pieces to practise your sight reading.

It would be a good idea to practice sight reading pieces you are familiar with and can easily detect errors.
Practice new pieces every day and make sure you have a solid understanding of keys, time signature, tempo markings, expressive marking, scales and chords
Play from beginning to end, easy pieces fast, hard pieces slower
I personaly try to sight read a piece one or twice. After that if i want to learn it, I play hands seperate.

for me its easy to play the piece if you practice it first with your right hand, then left hand and both hands. Try it. c:
