Kapustin Scores
on: August 22, 2004, 09:15:41 AM
I'm desperately looking for Kapustin scores since I have 2 CDs of his music on order.

It seems there is no resource for acquiring them, or they are all dead ends.

Well, I did find one Onno van Rijen who seems to have almost a complete library of his scores. In correspondence, he wanted to make an exchange for CD copies of people I've never heard of. I told him I'm a classical pianist, not really a jazz pianist. I'm interested merely in the classical background of Kapustin and how he incorporates classical into jazz music. I would really like to seriously explore this.

What van Rijen wants is (I quote):
"I am looking for following CDs:
- James Williams: Magical Trio 1
- James Williams: Meet the Magical Trio
- James Williams: Arioso Touch
- James Williams: I remember Clifford
- Mulgrew Miller: various CDs
- Phineas Newborn: various CDs
I am interested in recordings of works for jazz ensemble and symphony
orchestra as well."

It seems an unreasonable request to me. Here's a guy who has music none of the rest of us can find, but yet he wants me to help him find music even he can't find! How am I supposed to do that? I don't own a single jazz CD! Nor have I heard of any of these guys!

Now van Rijen won't respond to my emails.

Ok, so if anybody knows of these CDs, please let me know... all in the pursuit of some Kapustin scores. Thank you very much.

If you do have some Kapustin scores, please let me know. I'm interested in his Preludes, Etudes, Sonatas, Toccatas (-inas). I would like to see one of his more technically challenging pieces to see a good sample of Kapustin at his best.

Thank you very much.

Schaefer,

Yes, I'm most interested in the smaller works, the preludes and etudes. I don't know how else I'm supposed to contact you through the forum.
