Hello. Got this one for a song (no pun intended) locally. I have no idea what it is though. The previous owner said it was from the 1950's. She thought it was a Wurlitzer, but I don't think it looks like Wurlitzers from that time period. She also mentioned that it was originally dark brown but was refinished in black about 25 years ago. There is a subtle geometric pattern (rectangle with 2 lines/vents down the middle) above the foot pedals and 2 carved rings towards the top of each of the front legs.

I looked inside and the plates are stamped with a badger logo. Any ideas?

Did you try looking at the frame under the lid? Maybe on the upper right corner. Remove the knee board and look around too. It looks like a better quality build than say a Lester. Thicker and more ornate cabinet. I don't think Baldwin put those lower leg braces however, Baldwin did make a lot of different styled spinets from the 30's on up. Maybe a Winter. Really almost impossible to tell unless someone out there has the identical piano.

Duh? I'm an idiot. I never even thought of opening the top. I removed the knee board and that's how I saw the Badger logo (mentioned in the first post). Upon opening the top, it is indeed stamped Wurlitzer. It is also stamped with a 6 digit serial number that starts with 458. Does that indicate the year?

Does the serial number have six digits?
If so ... serial numbers 444000 through 474451 were made in 1952.
