Is this a good deal?
on: June 17, 2011, 10:52:17 PM
I have the opportunity to purchase a new Story & Clark H9. It is a 52"upright in polished mahogany.
Delivery, set up and first tuning included for $3875. Is this a good deal. And is this a suitable piano for a new student interested in learning classical repertoire? Any input  appreciated.

Thanks, moatsart.

Hi, Price seams a little high, however condition is most important.
If you are not sure what to look for under the cover then it would be wise to get a piano tuner and have hime look at it before purchase.

Hi wendling. Thanks for the reply but the condition of the piano is new not used. Comes with a fifteen year factory warranty.

The Story and Clark name has been around for years and has had a good reputation. Unfortunately, the name has been purchased and the once American made piano is now made in Korea and not of the same quality of yesteryear. That said, pretty much most new pianos are suitable for a student and being a 52", sounds like an pretty good deal to me. I really haven't checked out the new S and C pianos nor have I priced them, so I can't really give you a definitive answer. Do a LOT of comparison shopping to get a feel for quality and pricing.

Thanks keys. I know what I'd do if financing wasn't an issue. I'd purchase a 52"Kawai. But those I fear are completely out of my reach financially.

Whose price is that? Yours, or the dealer's?  If it's his asking price, you ought to negotiate a lower price.

:) Happy to announce my search for a starter instrument is over. I found a good deal on a Kawai CN 21 digital piano on craigslist for $500. It's in like new condition and will be excellent for late night practicing with headphones since I work the afternoon shift.
