Petrof
on: June 19, 2011, 12:45:46 AM
I recently played on a Petrof 7 foot grand during a class recital. Our venue usually provides us with a Kawai, and playing on the Petrof felt and sounded like a far superior instrument. What are your thoughts and feelings of this instrument? I know it is Czech, hand-made and wildly popular in Europe. Is it a lasting instrument? Is it a favorite among professionals? Does it have any rivalry with other European hand-made pianos, such as Bosendorfer, Steinway, Fazioli, etc.? Please share your views.

Honestly... For a Petrof - it's rather quite a good instrument. I've played on it only a couple of times, but I was playing on a nice $105,000 piano once and it's very close to the top of the range.

It would however be second to Steinway & Fazioli in my opinion - but far superior than Kawai ever could.

A tech I once spoke with said the Petrof grands could be setup to a very high standard, that they responded well to this, and that you could go almost as far as you wanted with them.
