Thalberg - let me be the first to say - that your reputation here as a valuable source of knowledge is just as solid as your playing abilities...

Although I'm not really a Bach fan - I did enjoy the cleanliness of your playing and every note sounded not only justified but precisely weighted to really bring out the subjects and motives expressed in this Prelude.

I was very impressed, but shocked that you haven't uploaded anything more in the past on YouTube. You should do more videos - I'd be very interested in watching your interpretations.

And... DAMN - that piano looks nice.    ;D

well  .....  well ..... a surprise .... Thalberg now has a YT channel .... 1st one??? ...
really good idea as personally, especially for classical piano, I find watching and listening to be a more complete experience than just listening.  You look so "formal and dignified" vs. the pics here where you have that cap and sweat-shirt gear.... ;D

Oh yes the playing ....  I really enjoyed it .... so Bachiiish!!!  and played so confidently... though you seem to be a bit shy with an audience (? ... a surprise for me).  Please upload more. THANKS!

It's very convincing, and you seem to know what you're doing, so I wont go into details, cause that's no point. However, I would variate the opening theme a bit more. For me, it's a bit too concrete, if you understand? What if you play the first one a bit... Like it comes from nothing, and something very far away? and then it comes closer every time?

But good job!

Thank you all for the nice comments.  I think there is a bit of identity mix up.....I'm just thalberg, not thalbergmad, as many people often assume.  :)

I enjoyed hearing you play.

Performances of Bach really require perfection to be great; it's not fair. :( The notes were clean and phrases distinct, the rest is subjective. You seem knowledgeable enough to do what you want. Thanks for posting.

Best wishes,

Hi thalberg,

I really enjoyed  hearing you play Bach.  Your articulation was thoughtful, precise and expressive too, which brought this music to life rather than presenting it as a dusty museum artifact.  A fine performance!  Hopefully we'll hear more of your performances!

Regarding the piano, that is a 7-foot steinway at the music store where the recital was.  It's a beautiful piano but I'm not sure it's worth the 90K they want for it these days.

@Rachfan:  Thanks for the kind words!  Have not seen you in a while.

This was very good, Thalberg!  It was great to see you on video for the first time.  Enjoyed your playing as always.

Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges.
