Favorite Video Game
on: June 30, 2011, 05:15:23 PM
So, music is definitely the one thing I enjoy spending my time with more than anything else, no question!
But one other thing I enjoy doing in my free time (at least the little that I have) is video games! They're a wonderful waste of time! :) Haha.
So let's get a discussion goin: What's your favorite video game? What are your favorite kind of games?
I'll start by naming a coupla familiar ones:
Super Smash Bros Melee/Brawl- games that never ever get old
Super Mario 64- undeniable classic
LoZ Wind Waker- just cuz it was my first zelda game. All LoZ games I've played are awesome.

Elder Scrolls - Oblivion.  No question.

Banjo Kazooie - Nuts and Bolts.  You can make ANY type of vehicle you want, and it's cartoony and hilarious as hell.  The physics in it are amazing too.

Elder Scrolls - Oblivion.  No question.

I have it at number four in my personal list. Morrowind is number one.
In the interests of full disclosure: I do not play the piano (at all).

I used to play a lot. But gaming went to another dimension when I started playing Call of Duty 4 (the modern warfare edition) online. It was so good, that it turned into an addiction. So much an addiction that I actually did quit playing at all.

So, my favorite game of all time - and the last game I did or will play - is CoD 4.  8)

Now, I must breath inside a paper bag until I get calm again.

Jay.

The first few series of Space Quest use to be one of the best games in the world for me as I played them on my dad's grey display 1000kg laptop!! These days I like Hidden Object Games (HOG) there are just too many to mention, I like the ones which do not have like collect items and solve a puzzle, they can be real tedious and boring, I just like to find the objects, I loved Where's Wally (Waldo) when I was younger. I also was very impressed with Machinarium which was a recent adventure puzzle game that I played through to the end.

For RPGs, Dragon Age 1 was absolutely mind blowing, this years 2nd release was a little disappointing but probably because the first one gave us so much. When I was younger I played all the Might and Magic series, I was a huge fan of RPG on the Super Nintendo from the company Squaresoft: Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy Series (number 3 was my favorite and a huge leap up in the series standard). The most difficult RPG I played to the end was Phantasy Star series, they were so difficult I spent much of my summer holidays with a good friend of mine and his brother trying to beat them. Games just don't feel the same now, but I still love them.

I have played the MMO Rappelz for the last 5 years (lvl 155 BS which is among the highest levels on the server but I have a friend who levels my characters with me) online gaming tends to be very boring to play normally since I don't have thousands of hours to invest grinding my characters level. I "merchant" mmos (buy and sell virtual items in game) and pretty much get to a point where I am able to buy the best of everything. I tend not to play the games properly just increase virtual wealth that is fun I guess lol, when I do have time to waste I can do things that not many others can do and thus I level my character pretty fast, having a trusted friend to play the same account helps too :) The psychology of online gaming is very peculiar, I could use my real money and get everything I wanted without having to merchant the game but it defeats the purpose for me.

I see there are a lot of RPG fans here!
I've heard amazing things about Chrono Trigger, never got around to it, that'll probably be my next game since it's up for download on my Wii!
Haha Jay. I don't even plan on buying a single CoD or WoW or anything that could totally consume my life. I always wanna enjoy my video games! :P
I absolutely loved the N64 Banjos!! But I don't think I can ever play Nuts and Bolts. I'm sure it's good, but, it bothers me that they call it Banjo when it's not. I wish they'd make a true sequel :(

Silent Hill (series).

The soundtrack is amazing. Akira Yamaoka uses so much sound design and tunes that feel heavenly but scary and haunting at the same time. He incorporates moments of silent that emobodies fear, literally. Silent Hill has the best soundtrack of any video game in all time IMHO, as it's the main basis for the horror aspect of the video game series. Not only that, but the melodies and the entire range of things he composes and the themes. Interestingly enough, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, which uses ice symbolically, has a very icy and alone vibe of a soundtrack. The symbolism in the series is awesome as well as the writing and the pacing and everything.

Play Silent Hill 2. Everybody reading this. You will not regret it. The storyline is so beautiful and amazing, the art form, symbology, interpretations of the story, everything right to the core creature design has meaning. I can't express my love for the series more than "I can't tell you how beautiful it us because it's so hard to explain if you haven't played it".

Seriously. Silent Hill is the reason video games are considered art forms.

Silent Hill 2, 3, 4, Homecoming are available for PC. In my opinion, Homecoming wasn't good because the plot wasn't executed very well and it seemed like a simple rehash of SH2. Play SH2 and SH3 (recommending you play SH3 first) in my opinion, then do 4 and Homecoming later.

What I mostly consider in a video game is the story plot, puzzles and the soundtrack.

The Legend of Zelda series
Mario Bros series (not all of them)
Grandia 2
Eternal Sonata
Final Fantasy X
Resident Evil: Code Veronica

1.) Skies of Arcadia Legends (Gamecube)
2.) Final Fantasy V
3.) Final Fantasy IV
4.) Gradius III & IV
5.) Zelda: A Link to the Past
6.) Xexex
7.) Super Metroid
8.) Castlevania IV
9.) Metroid Prime
10.) Axelay

I also like a ton of arcade games (Toaplan, Irem, and Konami shooters) and console series (Mega Man, Super Mario Bros.), but the above titles are those most influential and meaningful.

Colonization.

I'm kind of ashamed I liked it so much now that I'm older and understand what the heck I was DOING in that game, but I loved it. There was this other 3D-Dino game we had on our 1992 Windows (I think?) that was fun too.

And Spyro for PlayStation - It doesn't get better than a skateboarding purple dragon.

Other than that, does Chess on Windows Count? Haha, I'm kind of a loser in the videogame experience category....

I stand corrected; Morrowind is superior to Oblivion.  I was just a little too young to fully appreciate that game.  Oblivion is just a bit too user-friendly.  Morrowind can be tough as nails, and is scary as all hell when you go to the vampire lairs and the Daedric ruins.

I could talk about that game for hours.

I used to play a game called Stargate. Didnt have it at home so had to go to the bowling alley to play it. It was one game I would be willing to lie about my whereabouts. "Oh , I need to run an errand"
