Anything by Edward MacDowell

I'm surprised that you don't have any sheet music by MacDowell.  Any chance you'll be getting some soon?

Today I was looking for "to a wild rose', because I would like to learn this piece. Can you make it available?

You can get that one as well as all the other pieces from his 'Woodland Sketches' at IMSLP.

Best,

What a beautiful piece.  Doesn't everyone learn that one as they take lessons?  Sometimes the most simple pieces are still worth playing well after advancing well past them.  I still use it occasionally at churches when I get called at the last minute to fill in.  Always get people thanking me saying things like, "I learned that piece as a child, but have never really heard it!".

I think it's good for advanced players to play some easy pieces.  We can really put 100% into the interpretation and feel, something we couldn't do as well when the piece was new to us.  McDowell seems to me to be a composer that doesn't get enough exposure.
Albeniz: Suite Española #1, Op 47,
Bach: French Suite #5 in G,
Chopin: Andante Spianato,
Chopin: Nocturne F#m, Op 15 #2
Chopin: Ballade #1 Gm & #3 Aflat Mj

Agreed, ionian_tinnear ;) I also think good ole Edward  8) gets much less exposure than he deserves! Among my favorites of his have always been 'To a water-lily', 'By smouldering embers', 'An old garden' and 'An old love story'. As for 'To a wild rose', that's right at the top, not only because of its quality but also because it reminds me so much of someone I love ;)

From what you can find for free, Piano Sonata No.1 perhaps is the finest his piece. I find it to be very stirring and overall rank MacDowell's piano sonatas quite high. It seems like people are familiar mostly with his small works, but MacDowell's legacy goes far beyond that, and even though it is very difficult to find recordings of his compositions for orchestra, it doesn't mean that they are not worth it: this is now they're overlooked — during the years of his life they were getting good reviews...

the piano concerto's not too shabby either (really cool to start it with unaccompanied piano)
