Help picking up a Spanish piece....
on: July 08, 2011, 11:42:33 PM
What are some pieces that are written by Spanish composers, that have a very Spanish touch to it. Meaning the rhythm, possibly any trills, style, etc. Its hard to describe...but im looking along the lines of
that...
Notice how it just sounds like its from Spain, the staccato, the rhythm, the repeated notes and especially in the middle section, it has those trills 1:29-1:32 for instance and 1:40
The reason why I am asking is because my teacher asked me to pick a piece by a Spanish composer..I understand that there are a lot of them..and I have listened to a large amounts of works, and some works sound like something a regular composer from another part of the world would write...sorry if this sounds dumb, but I really want to learn a piece that would put the word SPAIN into the listeners head.

Spanish composers do infused their music with what-you-call as "Spanish" idioms. I am not sure which pieces you have listen to that do not have them. Albeniz, Granados, Turina, Falla, Rodrigo, etc., all have written music that contains them, perhaps some pieces less than others. Even some Soler and Scarlatti's pieces contain them. So, keep exploring. There are tons of music out there to choose from. Since I do not know your level, I won't be able to suggest any piece.

it doesn't have many spanish idioms, but the liszt spanish rhapsody is an excellent piece.
